Polyimide Fiber Overview and Applications
Time : 2024-12-04

1. What is Polyimide Fiber?

Research on polyimide fiber began in the United States and the former Soviet Union. It is a type of high-performance fiber with an acylamide ring structure in its molecular chain.

2. Key Features of Polyimide Fiber:

Thermal Stability: The decomposition temperature of the fiber is about 500°C, even under continuous use at 250°C, no physical degradation occurs.

Physical and Chemical Properties: Due to the unique structure of polyimide molecules, these fibers have higher strength and modulus compared to other high-performance fibers. They also contain no active groups, making them resistant to dyeing. However, they are not alkali-resistant and can hydrolyze in an alkaline environment.

3. Main Applications of Polyimide Fiber:

Environmental Protection: Used as high-temperature dust filter materials in environmental protection due to their high surface volume coefficient, which improves dust particle capture efficiency.

Protection and Reinforcement: As high-temperature dust filter materials in environmental protection applications, due to their excellent heat resistance, they are currently the best high-temperature filter materials available.

Consumer Products: Polyimide fibers are increasingly used in civilian textile products due to their excellent thermal insulation properties and have been extended from special protective areas to civilian textile clothing. For example, they are used in autumn and winter clothing for warmth and as air filters in daily life.
